December 2007
Birmingham City Council, Europe’s largest local council, has
selected Videss Legal Office from IRIS to support its nearly 300
strong legal team, which was LGC’s Legal Team of the Year in 2005
and has a string of national awards and accreditations to its name
– including
Investor in Excellence.
Mirza Ahmad, Chief Legal Officer of Birmingham
commented,
“After a careful and thorough selection process – supported by
Service Birmingham, a joint venture company between the Council and
Capita - the Videss Legal Office system from IRIS was chosen
as it presented our legal team with the best functional fit, value
for money and backed up by an experienced business environment to
support our large number of users. This move is our “next
step change in Legal Services” and will help to provide even more
excellent services to the citizens of Birmingham.”
Consisting of 120 Councillors and serving a million citizens,
Birmingham prides itself on providing a first-class service to its
citizens. Through its demonstration of clear vision, excellent
services
and a willingness to innovate, the council has achieved ‘Beacon’
status for a number of activities through the Beacon Scheme which
identifies excellence and innovation in local government. It has
also been LGC’s Council of the Year.
Councillor Mike Whitby, Leader of the Council
commented, “Being a Beacon Council is not only an accolade for
excellence and innovative ways of working, but also encourages
councils to share knowledge and experiences with others, and
inspiring them to improve. This latest innovative step change in
Legal Services will further help the council on its journey to
excellence.”
Chris Rose, Sales Director of IRIS Legal Solutions
added, “The IRIS Legal team and I are thrilled to have been
selected by Birmingham City Council and proud to be supporting such
a leading and prestigious organisation. We look forward to working
on the contract with Service Birmingham and alongside Legal
Services to help them develop innovative ways of operating and
establishing new levels of excellence.”
IRIS Legal Solutions MD Arlene Adams concludes,
“We are delighted to be working in partnership with Birmingham
City Council. This decision demonstrates that the IRIS Legal
business continues to grow from strength to strength and that
customers see real value in the scale of the IRIS operation and our
proven track record of delivering industry leading software and
services”.
